Baked Mac & Cheese

Ingredients
3 cups whole milk
2 cups Mac & Cheese Shredded Cheese
3 cups (12oz) pasta (penne, ziti, macaroni, etc.)
5 ½ tablespoons butter
2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon flour
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1 small yellow onion, finely diced (optional)
Directions
- Preheat oven to 425°F.
- Cook pasta according to package.
- Meanwhile, in a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt 5 Tbsp of butter with salt (reserve remaining ½ Tbsp of butter). (If using onions, sauté them in the butter until translucent.)
- Add flour to butter (and onions if using) and whisk until smooth.
- Slowly add milk ½ cup at a time, whisking smooth after each addition. Bring to a simmer and add entire package of shredded cheese. Stir until smooth. Drain pasta and add it to the cheese sauce.
- Transfer to a buttered 8 x 8” casserole dish.
- Melt remaining ½ Tbsp of butter and stir into breadcrumbs. Sprinkle buttered breadcrumbs over the top of the mac and cheese.
- Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown on top. Serve hot.
