Last-Minute Gifts for Valentine’s Day

Say “I Love You” with these quick treats

How is Valentine’s Day like Tax Day? Answer: Both of them tend to sneak up on us unexpectedly.

Not to worry—we’re here to help. Just keep this list handy and bring it to your neighborhood store so you can surprise the people who mean the most to you.

Zero-Hour Gift List

  • Flowers: You may not have time to order an arrangement, but you can be creative on your own. Start with roses arranged in a glass vase, add some greens, and put a red ribbon around the neck.
  • Gift cards: One of your significant other’s favorite stores is bound to be on the gift card rack. If not, a use-anywhere Visa gift card is always welcome.
  • Doilies? Yep. Get a pack of pretty paper doilies, write messages of love and encouragement on them (“You’re beautiful,” “Hello, gorgeous,” “I love you!”), then tape them in strategic places around the house. Mirrors, door backs, and homework desks are a few places to start.
  • Popcorn: Pop a bag of microwave popcorn, put it in a pretty bowl, and add a couple of movie tickets (or handmade coupons) to use for your next date night.
  • Bath night: Her favorite magazine wrapped around a pretty-smelling bottle of bath gel says she gets the night off while you fix dinner. (Or turn it around for him.) Don’t forget most stores have a great greeting card selection, too.
