This Week's Best Flavors

Ataulfo Mangos

Washington Grown Green Asparagus

  • Washington’s mineral-rich, volcanic soil and warm spring days give its asparagus a one of a kind flavor.
  • Its distinctive, slightly nutty flavor is a great addition to any pasta dish
  • Select asparagus with firm, crisp, dark green stalks and tightly closed heads
  • Choose bunches with spears of uniform thickness for even cooking.
  • Rinse asparagus before use and snap off the light colored base –it will naturally break between the tender spear and woody base when bent.
  • Store asparagus in a plastic bag in the refrigerator for 2 or 3 days with a moist paper towel wrapped around the base of the spears to retain moisture.
  • Asparagus is a very labor-intense crop requiring hand cutting one spear at a time.

Raspberries

  • Raspberries grow best in warmer climates such as Southern California, Baja, and Mexico
  • Each raspberry has up to 100 “drupelets”, each having their own seed
  • Their flavor comes out best at room temperature
  • The tiny hairs or “styles” on raspberries are natural and do not affect the flavor of the berry.
  • Raspberries are perhaps the most delicate item in the produce department and should be eaten within 2 days of purchase.
  • To freeze: wash, freeze on a flat tray and transfer to an air tight container in the freezer for up to 9 months.
